What is our program?

The SCMSA Summer Congress is a pioneering 14-day program in Egypt that blends intensive academic learning with cultural exploration.

Academically:

         1-Participants delve into the multifaceted world of Tropical and communicable diseases, gaining insights from diverse fields like tropical medicine, gastroenterology, surgery, pediatrics, and public health.

         2-The curriculum includes interactive sessions, real-patient clinical rotations, and surgical observations, providing a well-rounded educational experience, Renowned professors from SCU medical school impart their expertise throughout the program.

Culturally:

         The Congress seamlessly integrates cultural experiences, offering excursions to iconic Egyptian destinations such as Cairo and its magnificent Pyramids, the historic city of Alexandria, and the stunning Red Sea resort town of Dahab.

In essence, the SCMSA Congress provides a unique opportunity to:

  • Immerse oneself in the vibrant culture and history of Egypt.

Non-Surgical Specialties:

         1-Medical Expertise:

         Demonstrate a solid grasp of medical science principles.

2-Master essential clinical skills:

         1-Patient history and physical examination

         2-Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests

         3-Formulating differential diagnoses

         4-Developing and implementing effective treatment plans

         5-Providing comprehensive patient education and preventive care guidance.

 

3-Communication & Collaboration:

Effectively communicate with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.

4-Clinical Reasoning:

         Analyze patient data, critically evaluate evidence, and make sound clinical decisions.

5-Professionalism & Ethics:

         1-Prioritize patient-centered care with respect, compassion, and empathy.

         2-Maintain sensitivity to individual patient backgrounds and cultural differences.

Surgical Specialties:

1-Surgical Skills & Knowledge:

         1-Observe surgical procedures and understand sterile technique.

         2-Develop an understanding of common surgical instruments and their use.

         3-Participate in post-operative care, including wound checks and identifying potential complications.

2-Patient Care:

         1-Conduct pre-operative consultations and effectively communicate surgical procedures to patients.

         2-Contribute to the overall patient care plan.

3-Surgical Foundations:

         Demonstrate a strong understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology to effectively participate in all phases of surgical care.

1. Pre-Clinical session & role play:

In this session, the whole group will sit to discuss their previous knowledge about a certain topic. The Hospital coordinator will then give them a short guide about the clinical presentations and required examination for that topic. Then, the whole group will practice History taking or Examination in a role play with a tutor so that they prepare for the bedside session with the patient.

2. Bedside session:

The group will be subdivided into smaller groups, They will take history and perform general and relevant local examinations under the guidance of the tutor (and as  explained to them during the previous session and role play). The group will then discuss the differential diagnosis and provisional diagnosis of the case.

3. Problem-Based Course:

Summer School Scientific course uses Problem-Based learning or PBL as a main method of learning. PBL is a Student-Centered leaning strategy, that has the advantage of stimulating previous knowledge and active participation of the students in the learning process, hence develop students’ problem-solving skills, self-learning abilities, organized logic thinking, critical appraisal as well as self-evaluation, peer evaluation & teamwork.
